John F Kennedy in Ireland

Katie Feiritear, age 15

John F Kennedy. John F Kennedy
roared and screamed
the people in Dublin

You can see their faded faces
in away back ‘63

My dad, aged 9, saw him
through an upstairs window
in O’Connell Street

He was in a big opened car.

People rushed to get autographs
but he was safe in Dublin

The Lord Mayor asked him to shake
his mother’s hand so he did

His teeth so straight and clean
and white

His skin so tanned, his
suit so bright

The 35th American president.
He was the first to come to Ireland.
He helped the poor, so caring he was.
