I was thirteen years young and this was our generations version of shock and awe! Sure we couldn’t contain our excitement and when I woke a little late the morning of his visit, I ran all the way from ballintemple into the City, the Garda were powerless to stop the masses as we moved into postion close to the City Hall. John Kennedy passed close by as we screamed and tried to get a touch, we watched as he boarded the helicopter to fly out of Victoria road, he was our hero and we were his adoring fans. Such a proud day in Irish History and expecially for Corkonians.
