JFK’s helicopter

In 1963, my family lived in Grandview Terrace on the Victoria Road in Cork. The house overlooked what is now Kennedy Park but was then known as ‘The Boggy’. This was where JFK’s helicopter operated from. I was eight months old and parked in my pram in the front garden. My father – a keen photographer – took up station at an upstairs window. He has a sequence of shots showing the helicopter being mobbed by large crowds of people being vainly held back by what appears to be only a couple of uniformed Gardaí. I’ll have to see if I can track down the prints or negatives.
