I ran an auction hall in Blackrock. About thirty years ago, a woman brought items to us to sell, and she told me the story behind them. There was a large flag and a cigarette box. The items came from New Ross during President Kennedy’s visit. She had met an FBI agent in New Ross prior to the visit and they developed a friendship. On the day of the visit she wore the flag around her for attention, and Kennedy saw her wearing the flag. After the visit, the FBI agent went back to America, with a cigarette box that she had purchased for him. They kept in touch, and after President Kennedy’s assassination, he sent the cigarette box back to her. My auction hall bought these items from the woman.
