Eye on the sky
Justin Nelson
I was a camera man with RTE covering Kennedy’s arrival at Dublin Airport, on the roof of the control tower. Satellite was only available for 20 mins and plane was delayed, which made us all nervous. I filmed the plane as it came into the airport from a distance. When it landed my wife and children saw the arrival at Dublin Airport, which not many people had the chance to do. Kennedy was disappointed with the number of people there…he had no clue the security measures that were taken. I was the only camera at the airport, and RTE had the sole rights to the visit. The footage of JFK was seen worldwide. This was the biggest event at that point in time; none of us had handheld cameras.
