As a German exchange student to TCD I welcomed President Kennedy’s visit to Dublin even more since he was arriving from my hometown Berlin on my birthday, 26th of June! I watched the parade and took photos from a window in TCD. While waiting for the celebrating crowds to disperse before cycling back to Trinity Hall I passed the time chatting to a young man I had met some nights before at a concert in the Goethe Institute. Little did I know that this conversation would change my life profoundly: it was the beginning of a friendship which eventually led to my marriage to Morgan Dockrell and consequently to my permanent residence in Ireland. Yesterday we celebrated our 48th wedding anniversary!
