Frank McNamara, Limerick Racecourse

Frank McNamara, Limerick Racecourse

I am the (then) young boy, 2nd from the left. I had just shaken hands with JFK, hence the big smile. My sister Brigid, who had also shaken hands with JFK, is the girl with the very long hair, with her back to the camera. Brigid had turned around to tell our Mum & Dad (Norrie & Enda McNamara), who were standing behind, back from the fence.

My Mum & Dad never got to shake hands with JFK, as they put the kids to the front. However my Dad served all over the Pacific with the US forces in WWII as a radio officer on the USS Pasley & other ships. He was demobbed into Australia after the war, but never got to visit the USA! The attached photograph was taken by a Limerick Leader photographer I believe. I would have been 9 years old, and my sister 11.
